To the Parents and Supporters of McNary High School Fine Arts Students,
Welcome to a new and exciting year of activities in the McNary Fine Arts Department as we continue to build upon our successes of last year! Your Educators in Visual Arts and Performing Arts are working together to provide your student the best possible introduction to and development of artistic interest and skill. Our hope is that your child will gain a life-long appreciation of and participation in the arts as an active member, audience member, or both. Research shows the arts promote further development of the brain, which is reflected in increased academic performance and much more success in the student’s scholastic attempts. We also believe that the community we are developing in the Fine Arts classrooms, as a whole, allows for a rich and safe environment for your child to develop social skills, explore their creative interests and develop self-confidence and an awareness of their potential.
With your help this past year, we raised $18,000 for students in the Fine Arts! And, we distributed over $5,000 in scholarships for students moving onto college this fall….many pursuing the arts. As a direct result of three years of fundraising we have also been able to purchase equipment and software allowing us to have a fully functioning recording arts facility! This year we are introducing Studio Production and Introduction to Recording Arts and Sciences into our curriculum so students may start building skills toward college and career opportunities in audio and video performance, production, recording and editing. We believe we are providing real world training for real world careers, and continue to pursue educational opportunities that will enhance the student experience in the Fine Arts and in other academic pursuits. We would welcome and enjoy your participation.
How can you help keep this momentum going? There are a number of ways that your help would benefit our students. You can volunteer to assist at our fundraisers, volunteer to staff Studio M during afternoon and early evening hours, or assist with our Knight of Arts fundraiser that takes place on March 8, 2014. Your monetary contributions have allowed us to move quickly toward providing the most unique and well-rounded Arts Education in the Salem/Keizer area! We are so proud of what we have accomplished, and excited for our future. Whether you volunteer, chaperone students, contribute funds or just want more information about our events, please fill out the information sheet provided. We will ensure that you have the opportunity to join us in the activities that the Fine Arts Department provides for your students and the greater Keizer community this year.
We are excited about the coming year and hope you will join us at our shows and events that we have planned!
